Fiji will host the official Pre-COP31 climate meetings in Nadi from 5 to 8 October 2026, bringing together government representatives, climate negotiators and key stakeholders ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31). A special leaders' component will also be held in Tuvalu.
The meeting will focus on critical issues including climate finance, adaptation, loss and damage, and efforts to keep the 1.5°C global warming target within reach. Organisers say the event will provide an important platform to strengthen international cooperation and elevate the voices of Pacific Island nations that are among the most vulnerable to climate change.
Fiji's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change are working with the COP31 Presidency and the UNFCCC Secretariat to finalise arrangements. Officials said the success of the meeting will be measured by its ability to build consensus and advance progress toward meaningful outcomes at COP31.
